AB 49 – California Safe Haven Schools Act

AB 49 New Law (Updated as of March 1, 2026):

In accordance with California Assembly Bill 49 (AB 49), our school is committed to maintaining a safe and welcoming learning environment for all students and families, regardless of immigration status. AB 49 strengthens protections related to immigration enforcement on school campuses and helps ensure that student rights and educational access are protected.

• Prohibits schools and their employees from sharing student education records or any

information about students or their families with immigration authorities without the written consent of the student’s parents, a valid judicial warrant, judicial subpoena or a court order.

• Prohibits school officials and employees from allowing an officer or employee of a law

enforcement agency conducting immigration enforcement to enter a nonpublic area of a school site for any purpose without being presented with a valid judicial warrant, judicial subpoena, or a court order.

• Requires school officials and employees, to the extent practicable, to request valid identification of any officer or employee of an agency conducting immigration enforcement seeking to enter a nonpublic area of a school site.
